Health Care For Abused and Neglected Children, The Tree House

When physical abuse, sexual abuse, mental injury, or neglect of a child is suspected, Maryland State law mandates that all persons, including all professionals, must call to report their suspicions as soon as possible to the Department of Health and Human Services, Child Welfare Services.  In Montgomery County, the number to call is 240.777.4417.

If serious injuries exist, the child should be taken to his or her local emergency room immediately or 911 should be called for emergency assistance.  If there are no serious injuries, The Tree House can be contacted to schedule the following services for abused or neglected children: medical evaluations with a doctor who has expertise in child maltreatment, mental health assessments and ongoing mental health therapies, victim advocacy, and forensic interviewing.  The Office Coordinator can be reached at 240.777.3976 to schedule appointments or discuss how a child can get services through The Tree House.

For acute sexual assaults occurring within 72 hours of the incident, the Sexual Abuse and Assault Center at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital can be contacted at 301.279.6225. Otherwise, individuals can be seen at their local emergency rooms.

For after-hours care, children can also be seen at Nighttime Pediatrics, located at 12220 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852.  They can be contacted at 301.881.5000.
