Montgomery Cares is a program that provides primary health care to medically uninsured, low-income adult residents of Montgomery County. This program is funded in part by Montgomery County and administered by the Primary Care Coalition to help support the network of independent nonprofit clinics known as the Community HealthLink Clinics. The clinics are staffed by medical professionals, and are operated by their own staffs, boards, and traditions.
The clinics provide the following:
-
Visits with medical professionals.
-
Medications/prescriptions.
-
Check-ups.
-
Screenings.
-
Help to manage chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.
-
Referrals for necessary additional services.
You must make an appointment by phone to visit most clinics, many of which are near Metro bus and Ride On bus stops, and Metro stations. You can obtain additional information, assistance making an appointment, and a brochure outlining the bus and Metro routes for each clinic site by calling the Montgomery Cares Information and Referral line at 301.628.3455.

RAND Evaluation
This report summarizes 2008 findings from a planned five-year evaluation (2006–2011) of the Montgomery Cares initiative. The report should be of interest to policymakers in the county, as well as to individuals concerned with issues related to access to care among the uninsured more generally.
The evaluation was sponsored the Primary Care Coalition (PCC) of Montgomery County, Maryland, with funding from the Montgomery County government and conducted in RAND Health, a division of the RAND Corporation. A profile of RAND Health, abstracts of its publications, and ordering information can be found at www.rand.org/health.
