Dr. Carol Garvey’s distinguished career has included clinical practice in family medicine, health care policy, and administration in public health. In 1992 with Dr. Horace Bernton, she co-founded the Primary Care Coalition of Montgomery County to expand basic health services for uninsured low-income residents of Montgomery County. In addition to chairing the PCC Board of Directors, Dr. Garvey chairs the PCC External Affairs and Executive Committees and serves on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. She is a past Chair of the Montgomery County Collaboration Council for Children, Youth and Families, which oversees public and private resources for children and identifies and works to fill gaps in services. Dr. Garvey served as the Health Officer for Montgomery County from 1995 to 2003. She practiced family medicine for over two decades and has held academic appointments at Georgetown University School of Medicine, George Washington University School of Medicine, and the United States University of the Health Sciences. She has served as president of the Montgomery County Medical Society and treasurer of MedChi, the Maryland State Medical Society.
